Governmental Projects

Construction

Government buildings on our resume include justice and court facilities, libraries, state office buildings and police and fire stations. Working for state and local government and, in turn, the taxpayers takes a contractor who can accurately control cost while delivering a product the community can be proud of.

Major projects completed since 2000

City of Elizabethtown Police Station, Elizabethtown, Kentucky. (Construction Managers)
Jenkins-Essex acted as Construction Manager for the City of Elizabethtown on its new Police Station. This project consisted of constructing a new 31,197s.f. Police Station and renovating 6,000 s.f. of an existing station. The new construction included state-of -the art investigation, detention, and administrative areas. The project was completed in nineteen (19) months despite significant additive change orders during construction. It incorporated many unusual building materials including large expanses of exposed structural members, extensive terrazzo flooring, and large glass curtain wall sections.

Historic State Theater Phase III, Elizabethtown, Kentucky
Historically accurate renovation of eighty year old theater into a community performing arts center with state of the art lighting, staging and sound equipment. Exact finishes were reproduced including wall frescoes, theater seating and terrazo flooring. Original entry including neon marquee were faithfully restored also.

Hardin County Public Library, Elizabethtown, Kentucky. (Construction Managers)
 

This project consisted of the construction of a new 18,100 s.f. main Library facility for the County. Project was brought in on-time and approximately $75,000 under the Architect’s original budget even after negotiating the upgrade of finish levels by approximately $100,000.


Historic State Theater, Elizabethtown, Kentucky. (Construction Managers)

 

This project consisted of constructing a new Gallery, catering kitchen and restrooms (8,691 s.f.) and the interior and exterior renovation of an existing 7,498 s.f. building into a “Black Box” theater and offices. The project was completed in thirteen (13) months and incorporated many historic building features and materials including extensive terrazzo flooring, spandrel glass wall sections and a complete rebuilding of the historic neon marquee. Despite significant redesign and additive change orders during construction, the project came in at budget and completion was delayed by only thirty days.
